Simultaneous Interpretation

Simultaneous interpreters usually sit in individual soundproof booths with a line of sight to the speaker. They’ll listen over headphones and translate what they hear into a microphone, the sound from which is fed into the headphones of conference attendees who don’t understand the language of the speaker. This method of interpretation is non-intrusive, but also highly technical. Auditoriums need to be rigged up with high-tech equipment ahead of the conference in order to give the interpreters what they need to carry out an effective job.
