Proofreading is a thorough, final quality check of written content before publication. This differs from editing, which is about improving the quality of the content itself, whereas proofreading is about ensuring text accuracy and removing errors.

Proofreaders scour a document to find and correct various different issues, from accuracy of spelling, and grammar and syntax, to consistency in style and presentation.
